Job Listings

by Bill Deegan last modified 2008-06-17 23:22

BayPIGgies is focused on discussion of Python programming and arranging community events. We want to encourage the Python job market, so we offer these guidelines for job ads; it's a win-win situation for everyone:

  • You must subscribe to the BayPIGgies mailing list so that you can read discussion of your ad
  • Principals only, no recruiters. We prefer ads to come from technical people to make it easier to get questions answered
  • Each company may post one ad per month
  • Please make clear how Python will be used on the job
  • Please restrict the geographic region to the greater SF Bay Area and Silicon Valley, roughly south down to Monterey, north to Santa Rosa, and (north)east to Sacramento
  • We will remove listings after 1 month and/or if they do not follow the above guidelines.
  • You may hit a larger audience by also sending to the mailing list.

We reserve the right to change these guidelines any time; please check back each time before you post.

Python developer needed for progressive non-profit

Posted by Ross Lenihan at 2008-08-20 15:58
Have python chops? Want to use them for a good cause?

Video the Vote (www.videothevote.org) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan project that organizes citizen journalists to document election irregularities (broken machines, long lines, voter purging, etc.) We were founded in 2006 and have more than 1,300 volunteers nationwide.

Election Day 2008 is only a few months away, and we need a contract python developer pronto to upgrade our web site, make improvements to our volunteer database, and ensure integration of our video uploading system with other video hosting platforms (e.g., YouTube).

Start date: immediately
Time commitment: min. 15 hrs./week, more is better

If you're interested, send a resume and cover note to ross@videothevote.org Please include your hourly rate.

Web Site Developer at SnapLogic, San Mateo

Posted by Mike Pittaro at 2008-09-03 14:09
We're looking for a web developer to pick up some of the ongoing maintenance and
enhancements to the SnapLogic developer site at http://www.snaplogic.org.

This is part time, project oriented work to implement specific changes to the site. The required skills are Python programming, basic html/css, MySQL, subversion, and familiarity with web applications. Trac and wordpress experience is a plus. We will bring in a designer for significant web UI changes, so we dont need major UI design experience, just the ability to implement css and layout changes.

The environment is RedHat 4 Linux, and the bulk of our infrastrucutre is implemented in Python. The main applications are Trac, Mailman, an extensions repository based on Django, and a Wordpress blog.

Some of the upcoming projects include:
Site layout/style changes
Trac enhancements/macros
Trac bug fixes
Trac 0.10 -> 0.11 upgrade
Discussion forums integrated with mailman
Mailman 3 rollout

We typically have a good lead time for the projects, and some scheduling flexibility. Our office is located in San Mateo, and much of the work can be done remotely. We have a full development environment for implementation, and dev to prod release processes in place.

If you're interested, please contact me at mikeyp@snaplogic.org.
